"The Power of Gratitude: Realizing We Are Owed Nothing and Appreciating Everything"

Updated: Jan 31, 2023

"Once We Realize We Are Owed Nothing, We Are Grateful for Everything" are the words of wisdom from a dear friend that can never be unheard.

It's easy to take things for granted when we feel entitled or that we are owed something. We expect certain things in our lives to be a given, whether it's a certain standard of living, a certain level of success, or a certain level of happiness. But when we realize that we are not owed anything, that everything in our lives is a gift from God, our perspective changes.

When this happens, we start to see the beauty in the small things, the blessings in the difficult times, and the opportunities in the challenges. We start to be grateful for the people in our lives, the roof over our heads, and the food on our table. We start to live like St. Therese taught us, live simply in great love.

Realizing that we are not owed anything also helps us to develop humility. We understand that our successes and accomplishments are not solely based on our own efforts, but also on the grace of God and the support of others. It helps us to see that we are not better or worse than others, but we are all equal in the eyes of God.

When we are grateful for everything, we also become more content and satisfied with our lives. We stop comparing ourselves to others and we stop wanting more and more. We start to find joy in the present moment and in the people around us.

It’s true, it’s not always easy to be grateful for everything, especially when life is hard. That's when we need to remind ourselves that God is in control, and that everything happens for a reason. We can trust that God has a plan for our lives and that everything will work out for the best.

Once we realize that we are not owed anything, we start to appreciate everything that we have. We develop a sense of gratitude, humility, and contentment. It's a mindset shift that can change our entire perspective on life. Striving to be grateful for everything makes it easy to trust in God's plan for our lives.

Together in prayer, hand in hand.
