Month of May, Month of Mary

Updated: May 16, 2023

One of my most favorite things to do is to sit down and write rosary meditations. Today marks the Month of May, which was so eloquently referred to by Father Beau of SOLT Missionaries in Belize, as the Month of Mary! His challenge was to pray the rosary every day! I'm committed! Let's do this together!

On a personal side note, I have been waiting for the right time to start posting some of my rosary meditations and after hearing his homily, it's pretty clear, the time is now. The first rosary I chose was one of the first that I had ever written. I wrote this rosary upon the request of our Catholic School Principal. The students recited this rosary once a week over the intercom during their Lent season but it can certainly be prayed whenever the Lord is leading you. It is simple and written with the interests and intentions of Kindergarten through 8th grade students sharing with their Catholic student body. Feel free to take this one and make it your own. You can interchange the beginning of each mystery with the salutation that makes most sense to your rosary intentions. Some keep the name of the school and some insert their own personal family name. Whatever works best for you is what makes the most sense to use. Tua Oratio!

1st Mystery: The Resurrection: (Insert School Name and mascot here), do not be afraid. We know there are days when you are seeking truth, seeking friends, seeking wisdom. Please know that Jesus is there for you. He has risen for you and is waiting for you in Heaven but He did not leave you alone. He left the Holy Spirit back to be with you and to be your friend. Look for Jesus in everything you do today. He is risen. He gives you hope. You can trust him.

2nd Mystery: The Ascension: (Insert School Name and mascot here), can you imagine what it will be like to go to heaven and sit in God’s lap? Well that’s exactly what our Lord Jesus did. He came down here and spoke the words of truth to all that would listen and then he ascended back up to heaven to sit at the right hand of God the Father. Are you listening to the words Jesus is trying to speak to you? Try listening real carefully during your day today and see what He has to say! You can trust what he tells you. You are safe with him.

3rd Mystery: The descent of the Holy Spirit: (Insert School Name and mascot here), remember that Jesus didn’t leave you alone, he sent you the Holy Spirit? Well, here is how it happened? There was a large room filled with Jesus’s disciples and they heard this really loud gush of wind come down and it filled the entire room! Then tongues of fire rested on each one of the disciples. That is how they were filled with the Holy Spirit. Where do you feel the Holy Spirt today? Think about this today and ask God to help show you. Read your bible with your family this week and pray for the Holy Spirit to help you make the right choices. You can trust Jesus to show you the way.

4th Mystery: The Assumption: (Insert School Name and mascot here), have you ever wondered what it would be like to stand on top of the moon? Well, think of the assumption of our mother Mary. Because Mary was immaculate, when she died her whole body and soul rose into heaven. Imagine looking up in the sky and seeing a beautiful Mary ascending into heaven. She had a sun around her, the moon was under her feet as if she was standing on top of it and she had a beautiful crown with 12 beautiful stars above her head. Those stars represented the 12 apostles. Which apostle do you relate to the most? How can you grow closer to Mary today. Pray about that and ask her to help show you the way. She is Jesus’s mother. You can trust her to lead you to Jesus. She knows the best way.

5th Mystery: The Coronation: (Insert School Name and mascot here), can you even begin to imagine being crowned the Queen of Heaven? That’s exactly what happened to Mary. She was the glory of Jerusalem. She was the mother of Jesus. She was human just like all of us yet she had the courage and the strength to say YES to God. She has been given God’s graces to give to us, and she very much wants to do so! As Queen of Heaven, she always wants to do God’s will and wants us to do God’s will too. What is God asking you to say YES to this week? Can you repeatedly say YES to God just like Mary did?

My prayer for you today is that you lean into the graces of each of the glorious mysteries and make them your own. May you find ways to understand each mystery more deeply and to live out their truths in your daily life. With each rosary prayed, may you feel God drawing closer to you through the decades, the breaths and the contemplative prayer. May you rest in knowing you are filled with His glory alone.

Together in prayer. Hand in hand.

This is a really neat idea. The way these reflections with each decade both educate and personalize prayer is beautiful. I've been praying the rosary daily for 12 years and I sometimes talk to Mary or Jesus at each decade, though not as eloquently as is written here!
